Activity: Spaghetti Tower Challenge

Explore all the steps of the design process: thinking, doing, prototyping, and iteration with this fun STEM challenge. The challenge is to build the tallest tower possible in 18 minutes that will support a marshmallow. This challenge is best done with a group of 3 or 4 friends or family members. The more ideas here, the merrier!

materials:

• 20 sticks of dry spaghetti
• one yard of string
• one yard of tape
• one marshmallow

Step 1: Gather all of your materials.

Step 2:  Your challenge is to build the tallest tower possible with just these materials. The tower must also support the weight of a single marshmallow. AND you must do all of this in under 18 minutes.

Step 3: Set a timer for 18 minutes.

Step 4: Get to it!
